Becks Debut Against Roma

By: fetyani | January 12th, 2009

Ancelotti was fooling us all along; he was planning to play Beckham from the beginning of the game against Roma in his debut. Unfortunately David couldn’t help Milan win the 3 points, the game ended with a 2-2 draw; with 2 goals from Pato & Vucinic. 89 minutes, and it’s fair to say Beckham’s performance was pretty decent. You can see the enchanting passes that left his foot were as great, but the problem was there was no one there for the ball, or intercepted by the defence.

Goal.com gave Beckham a 7.0 “It was the new signing’s first competitive match since the end of October, however despite this; it did not take long for the Englishman to make his mark. His dangerous balls into the area were more than impressive, and his impact tonight was outstanding, considering his short time at the club thus far.”

Ancelotti on the sneaky tactic,

“I spoke with the players and told them I intended to play Beckham. We all decided to keep a low profile and not advertise the fact, that way avoiding excessive media attention and pressure on his shoulders.

“Beckham has proved in the few days he has been with us that he is a tactically intelligent player who can provide balance. He also trained well and is in good shape physically, so this was his reward for settling in so quickly.

“I think everyone is happy that Beckham has arrived. I will never tire of pointing out he is an exemplary professional who works hard and everyone knows the situation, so there is no point penalising him because he will only be here for two months.”

Beckham delighted about his debut performance,

“I feel very good and in shape,”

“I was surprised to play from the beginning, but I enjoyed myself a lot. I played better than I believed.

“My objective is to play as many games as possible and to work on my form. I feel lucky. I will look to help Milan.”

“My contract is clear,” “I have to return for the start of the season with LA Galaxy. This is written in my contract.”

“I have no regrets in my career. I am happy to have this chance.”

[On The Scudetto]

“It’s difficult but not impossible,”

“Milan have some of the strongest players in the world. We can do it.”

Pato had some nice words for Becks; those two are getting along pretty well on and off the field.

“He is certainly better than me,”

“I am happy that he came to Milan. Beckham is a great player.”

Milan’s next game is on the 17th when they have another big test against Fiorentina.

Till then, Forza Milan! & Forza Beckham!

You can see the enchanting passes that left his foot…

I was skimming this and reac, “You can see the enchanting passes from his left foot…” and I thought, “Um…what?!?? BECKHAM?! LEFT FOOT?!?”

But on re-reading it made much more sense.

Adorable photo with Pato. I may steal that for the Galaxy blog.

What are the chances of him staying on in Italy if he continues to deliver top shelf performances like this?
