Milan, Not Beckham!

By: fetyani | January 7th, 2009

First of all, before I talk about Beckham’s 45 minute performance against Hamburg in Dubai, I have something to share. I never doubted Becks skills and talent on the field, but off the field it’s a whole other issue. I consider it a curse, but if he likes to live “Beck & Posh Style” then good for him. Now when it comes to Milan, no player is put before the club, let alone a 3 month loan player. “Media Circus” is exactly what’s going on now, and been going on for David for the last decade of his life. But it’s going too far for Milan, as if it’s like Milan changed their name to “Beckham & Milan”. I’m not blaming him at all; it’s not his fault, like I said it’s a curse. But I hope the media can shut the f*%#k and just let him play in peace. I know it won’t happen, but just a reminder, David is not Milan and will never be anything close; only a few can come close to being THE club and only after spending +20 years with the club (Maldini, Baresi, Costacurta…).

Note: Just to clarify; I honestly believe Beckham is a great player, i have nothing against him. I actually admire him, he went from nothing to the most popular athlete in the world. And I’m sure he will impress everyone with Milan in the next 3 months

Now that Beckham is part of the team. Regardless of the injury scare before the Hamburg game, Beckham managed to get fit and ready to start the game. His performance was decent, nothing too special and nothing bad. It’s a friendly game after all, so it’s practically a training session. We can’t really judge him until he plays at least 2-3 official games.

Now David has to continue working hard and impress Ancelotti so he can play against Roma on Sunday. Do I think he should play? I really don’t care; it’s all up to Coach Carlo. If he’s the best option out of all the midfielders then Yes. I have faith that Ancelotti won’t let anyone affect his decision, well I hope so. Share your thoughts here on whether Becks should play or not against Roma.

Update:

Beckham Musings:

- England coach Fabio Capello:

“Experience in Milan will leave Beckham in good condition to play with the national team,”

“To play in a team such as Milan, in a league like the Italian one, where all the matches are difficult, is invaluable for him.

“In Italy you draw experience each and every day of the week, and I am expecting him to return in optimal condition.

“He knows that I would not have called him up for England had he not joined Milan, so he has made the right decision,”

- Ex-team mate Crazy Boy Cassano:

“We had a good rapport at the time we played together at Real”

“I can say that, aside from just a marketing phenomenon, we are talking about a great player here.

“I played alongside him and can say that for certain. Beckham will surely do very well at Milan, because he can interpret all of the midfield roles perfectly.”

“When he arrived in the morning for training I – who always have to bother someone – would often play a few jokes on him and he played along. He’s got a good sense of humour.”

Until then, Forza Milan…then Forza Beckham.

I believe he should, Milan historically done well when a player debuts and this would be no different. We need the points and he needs to contribute and no matter to start then right away
